PISA 2006 - Winter in Finland

PISA 2006 - Winter in Finland

Welcome to the Finnish PISA 2006 pages!

The Finnish education system proved again its strength in PISA 2009. However, the best students in all domains were found among the East-Asian countries and economies, with the students from Shanghai China, participating in PISA for the first time, outperforming others in all domains. Along with other top-performing East-Asian non-OECD economies, students from South Korea, Finland, Japan and Canada were among the "top ten" in all three domains. The results can be read in more detail on the pages of the OECD. A press release on the Finnish results can be found on the pages of the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture. Some more information can be found in the booklet in English, prepared by the University of Jyväskylä, responsible for the implementation of PISA 2009 in Finland.

A new section on PISA 2009 will also be added to these pages later in December. Accordingly, these pages will continue to provide a concise account and interpretation of Finnish students' success in the OECD PISA studies from year 2000 to 2009, in all the three domains of Reading, Mathematical and Scientific literacy.

Meanwhile, two concise OECD publications on PISA 2009 can be downloaded for the OECD pages: PISA 2009 Executive Summary and PISA 2009 At a Glance

A general overview of PISA and the results of PISA 2000, 2003, 2006 and 2009 will be presented in OECD PISA. A more detailed picture of Finnish students' performance in PISA, with results and reflections on factors contributing to the success, will be presented in Finland PISA. Education in Finland gives an overview of the Finnish education system with an emphasis on the history and present state of the basic or comprehensive school (grades 1 to 9). The section Finland provides diverse general information about Finland. Links and articles offers a shortcut to the key publications and links of the other pages. If you have a question, please look if it has already been answered in Contact us & FAQ. If you don't find an answer, please don't hesitate to contact us. We will try our best to answer any questions you might have regarding Finnish students' success in PISA.
